The Union offers the following Tuberculosis and Lung Health courses and International Management Development Programme courses upon request from national tuberculosis programmes, public health organisations and other sponsoring organisations. They may be presented for national or international groups in a variety of formats and languages and tailored to the specific needs of your country, region or organisation.
The Union’s expert curriculum designers and instructors are also available to develop and deliver a course tailored specifically to your training needs. Some courses can also be delivered in-house, exclusively for your organisation or agency.
In addition, the International Management Development Programme offers “Fast Track Courses” that target specific management competencies.

Principles of Tuberculosis Care and Prevention: Translating Knowledge to Action
The main goal of this course is to provide the knowledge and skills to senior programme staff and other health professionals, to improve the management of persons with tuberculosis (TB) and strengthen programmatic practices. It has pre-course online, classroom and field components.
Course on the Clinical Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis
The Course on the Clinical Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis is a five-day intensive training course, consisting of interactive in-class presentations, discussions and practical exercises and a field visit in Bangkok, aiming to strengthen participants’ capacity in clinical and programmatic management of drug-resistant tuberculosis.
TB-HIV Clinical Management Course
The TB-HIV Clinical Management Course aims to improve diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis among people living with HIV and introduces the 12 points components of the country-level implementation of collaborative TB-HIV activities.
Cours sur la Lutte Contre la Tuberculose
Le cours apporte aux participants les bases théoriques de la prise en charge des patients tuberculeux et aborde de façon pratique les stratégies de lutte et de gestion d’un programme y compris la prévention, la prise en charge et le traitement de la tuberculose, les activités en classe, les exercices en petit groupe et les visites sur le terrain.
Cours sur la Tuberculose Multirésistante
Ce cours a pour objectif de transmettre des connaissances et des compétences pour la prise en charge de la Tuberculose Multirésistante (TBMR), notamment en utilisant un régime de traitement court de 9 mois. Le cours introduira également des éléments concernant la prise en charge de la Tuberculose Ultra-résistante.
Curso de Epidemiología y Control de la Tuberculosis
El propósito de este curso de Epidemiología y Control de la Tuberculosis es el de razonar y revisar en profundidad las bases de la epidemiología y el control del a tuberculosis, dentro del contexto de un Programa Nacional de Tuberculosis.
Curso de Manejo Clínico y Operativo de la Tuberculosis con Resistencia a Fármacos
El curso de Manejo Clínico y Operativo de la Tuberculosis con Resistencia a Fármacos fue desarrollado debido al desafío global de la tuberculosis con multi-fármaco resistencia (TB-MDR), y más recientemente, de la tuberculosis extremadamente farmacorresistente (TB-XDR), que han atraído cada vez más atención y recursos en los últimos años.
Curso de Manejo Clínico de Pacientes con Coinfección TB-VIH
El curso de Manejo Clínico de Pacientes con Coinfección TB-VIH fue concebido como una respuesta a una serie de problemas y necesidades de formación observadas en muchos países en los que trabaja La Unión. Creemos que para reducir la mortalidad en pacientes coinfectados es necesario ofrecer asesoramiento conjunto y armonizar el manejo de ambas enfermedades y sus complicaciones.
International Management Development Programme Custom-Designed Courses
The Union provides management experts and instructors to create custom-designed courses that fit your organisation’s individual programme needs. Custom-designed courses draw upon existing curriculum topics and incorporate additional expertise as needed. Existing courses can also be delivered on-site, exclusively for your public health organisation or programme.
The Union also offers training designed to strengthen capacity for effective tobacco control programmes in countries with the highest burden of tobacco use. These management courses are delivered to help countries improve the effective running of tobacco control programmes especially in limited-resource settings.

An Approach to Strengthening Health Systems
This course focuses on improving the productivity and efficiency of health systems. Participants will learn how to identify challenges and opportunities in the current health systems functioning in their domain, understand linkages between health system, policy and research, and learn how to improve or re-engineer any health system to make it more efficient.
An Approach to Strengthening Health Systems will teach participants how to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the health systems and how to establish optimum controls while laying down the system.
Budget and Financial Management
The objective of this course is to teach participants how to strengthen management and decision systems within their organisation or programme, so they are able to evolve along a strategic pathway from financial dependency to independency. This course will allow participants to recognise and leverage budgeting as one of the key tools in achieving financial sustainability.
Participants will gain a fundamental understanding of budgeting, financial management and risk within the context of the development sector. The participants will also have the opportunity to apply the concepts learned and delivered through practical and relevant exercises and simulations.
Human Resources Management
Gain a better understanding of effective Human Resources (HR) Management practices to effectively lead teams in meeting organisational goals and objectives.
Learning directly from HR experts, participants in this five-day course will engage in exercises and real-world simulations that strengthen the leader’s management of their organisation’s most important resources: people. Participants will identify and assess their organisation’s major HR needs, policies and strategies.
Leading Management Teams
This course will help participants appreciate and develop the managerial dynamic necessary to elicit a high performance from staff and bring an awareness of leadership styles and strategies to interact with different kinds of people at work or elsewhere.
Participants will gain an experiential understanding of how to build inter-personal relationships that can balance the task focus of managers and leaders. They will gain insights into why adopting a coaching and mentoring style of managing can be highly productive in task accomplishment and gain an understanding of how to go about building a positive culture at work.
The course combines exercises, case studies from real health management situations and role-playing simulations. Participants will address specific managerial problems from their own countries and strategic issues affecting public health programmes globally.
Management and Leadership
This course explores leadership and strategy execution in high performing teams. Changing the performance and behavior of others requires that leaders first identify the changes that must occur within themselves.
This course will help participants enhance their performance by building leadership competencies and strengthening their mentoring and coaching skills.
Monitoring and Evaluation
This course focuses on bringing in accountability of monitoring and evaluation for ensuring project completion on time within budgeted costs.
Participants in this course will be able to develop different levels of indicators for project monitoring and evaluation, strengthen the process of supervision, audit and data collection, and demonstrate different methods of monitoring and evaluation.
Power and Influence, Networking and Partnerships
This course provides participants with a better understanding of the basics of power and influence and how to use them more effectively through creating networks, partnerships and alliances.
In this course, participants will come away with a better understanding of how to use their power and influence with their superiors, subordinates, peers and those within and without their organisation. Participants will create a leadership development plan they can implement to create more effective networks, have more influence and create more partnerships and alliances. Focus is given to developing the interpersonal communication skills necessary to facilitate an enhanced sense of community and cooperation as well as to establish strong partnerships for promoting public health initiatives.
Project Management is a fundamental component of successful programmes. This five-day course equips participants with an integrated, logical framework approach to project planning, implementation and review.
The main goal of this course is to make projects more effective and efficient in terms of delivery to the targeted beneficiaries. The objective of this training is to utilise the log-frame approach in project cycle management for improving the impact of the projects and programmes implemented and the use of various tools, such as stakeholder analysis, problem analysis, objective analysis, log frame matrix, GANTT chart, monitoring plan and resource plan.
Strategic Health Communications
Participants will gain a greater understanding of effective communication strategies for promoting health programmes and disseminating important health messages to the public.
This five-day course is designed for health professionals, who primarily work in low-income settings, and focuses on practical skills and tools to support the development and implementation of public health communication programmes. Participants learn how to create powerful health education messages and communication materials that can assist them in establishing useful connections with journalists and media.
Strategic Planning and Innovation
This course focuses on bringing a creative mindset to organisations and slowly infusing a culture of innovation within. Using real time examples, the course seeks to bring about actionable change in the way that each participant thinks, creating a road map from creativity to strategy using experiential methodology.
Participants in this course will identify and connect their creative abilities, learn and apply creativity tools and techniques to ground level issues and build a personal map of their organisations and its strategic impact.
Strategic Planning and Innovation emphasises individual and group strategic thinking that leads to innovating applications and results in continuous quality improvement.
Supply Chain Management
The objective of this course is to provide participants with the practical knowledge and skills to effectively manage the antituberculosis medicines and laboratory commodities needed in today’s tuberculosis (TB) programmes, as well as the supply chain management functions of diseases, such as HIV, malaria, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and other diseases. There is increasing collaboration and coordination with TB programmes and many of the topics covered in this course can also be applied to the management of antiretroviral drugs and HIV diagnostics.
The techniques presented in lectures will be applied during realistic case exercises and simulations related to pharmaceutical supply management (PSM).
Training of Trainers
Training of Trainers introduces the systematic development and delivery of training for adults, as well as ideas for successfully managing a training programme. The learning objectives of this course consists of describing the five components of successful training, identifying the three major types of learners, using learning objectives to focus on training, using techniques to help learners get the most out of class and using evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness of training.
Participants are prepared to be more effective trainers and facilitators. This five-day course addresses core competencies required for training preparation, planning, delivery and evaluation.
